79% OF PEOPLE IN THE UK WANT MORE INNOVATION FOR THEIR OLDER AGE
Based on a Survey carried out by the Technology Strategy Board recently, 90 % of people in the UK are not looking forward to older age. Nearly half of the people surveyed (43%) think that better products and services to sustain independence would change this. 79 % of people in the UK want more innovation in products and services for older age.
With 80 % of wealth in the UK resting in the hands of the over 50s, the poll highlights a notable market opportunity. A lot of the existing technology around us is purely functional – it’s based on a need, not on desirability and relevance – people should be demanding better products and services for later life. Older life shouldn’t just be about surviving, it should be about thriving and enjoying yourself as much as any other time in your life.
Today sees the launch of Tomorrow Together, a new campaign sparking a national conversation about the future needs of older adults. People can take part in the discussion at tomorrowtogether.innovateuk.org or onTwitter by following @TomorrowTogether or the hashtag #innovateforage.
So come on Britain, let's listen to this new market - an open invitation to come up with new technologies and innovations so that our Old Age is something to look forward to and not to dread! And to cap it all a new forum to give us the ideas of what people want!
